There are many skin care ingredients that can harm your baby during pregnancy. Watch as Parents Magazine tells you what to avoid when pregnant! Medicines are categorized as A, B, C, D or X. A and B are know to be safe during pregnancy. Category C is a tricky one because there have been no studies done in humans, so they’re best to avoid. Common category C ingredients are salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and hydroquinone. Categories D and X are known to cause fetal abnormalities. These include Accutane and oral antibiotics such as Minocyline, Doxycycline, and Tetracycline. Also avoid any Topical retinoides, such as over-the-counter retinol, Retin-A, Tazorac, Differin, and Atralin. Now you know what skin care ingredients to avoid when pregnant!
