Outdoor Milk Bath Fall Maternity Session

When Wendy from Innovative Memories photography reached out with this milk bath photo session, we knew we had to publish right away. The combination of the Florida Fall setting and creative milk bath setting was something we knew you’d want to see.

From the photographer:

When Ashlea came for her maternity consultation, she mentioned she wanted to do a milk bath session. I was thrilled when she agreed to get creative and take it out on location! Her boyfriend and a friend were able to help me move the porcelain tub to the designated field. Not an easy task, but so very worth it! I loved how this tub suited the rustic scene!
This field is used to pasture cows and was the perfect location for her session. We even found a fall colored oak tree to use in the backdrop. Floridians get excited over rare falls leaves! I used various silk wildflowers, greenery and some soothing candles to decorate the tub, then added the water and milk for the perfect mix. Florida falls are still very warm, so the cold water wasn’t too hard to handle and Ashlea was a trooper!

What a gorgeous mother-to-be at 34 weeks! She looked stunning in her printed dress from the VICI collection! Our studio provided her lace gown for the milk bath. Ashlea is expecting a little girl so I opted to use various pinks, orange, and yellow real flowers to float alongside her in the milk bath.

Combining a milk bath with an outdoor session just might be the best thing to happen to unique maternity photography this year.

Does Nutrition Play a Role in Infertility?

Infertility was once seen as a woman’s reproductive problem. In the pre-feminist world, motherhood proved a woman’s worth. This is no longer the case. Modern medical science and research have taught us that infertility affects both, men and women. Beyond that, we have also learned that the causes of infertility don’t start and end with the male and female reproductive systems. With March as National Nutrition Month, it’s the perfect time to take an in-depth look at one of the influences that may largely impact infertility: one’s diet.

How To Take Amazing Pregnancy Selfies

Screen Shot 2014-08-19 at 1.49.22 PM

Documenting your pregnancy through selfies isn’t anything new, but the techniques are ever evolving. When I was pregnant with our first, pregnancy selfies consisted of setting the timer on the camera and trying to make it back to the spot and get in a little pose in time. I’d usually get a good selfie out of the 10 or so that I’d take. Don’t laugh, totally true.

Pregnancy selfies these days are a lot easier. Everyone has a smart phone, tablet or laptop that can take the picture while we’re still in view and can see what it will look like. It’s also easy to edit, use filters and get the updates posted online when you use your smartphone.

Use What You Have

Think about your “props.” You can use beautiful locations to make your photos even better on the cheap (or free!).

Do you have an amazing landscape you can safely visit for an amazing selfie?

How about an heirloom piece of furniture?

Do you have an amazing picture window you can use for lighting?

Take a look around and think about the things you can use around you. Don’t be afraid to incorporate things that you love or keepsakes that you’ll want to document with your bump along the way.

Don’t Be Afraid To Use Tech

There are so many tools out there that you can use to help with amazing pregnancy selfies. The biggest one right now is a phone tripod with a remote.

A tripod like this is portable and perfect for taking pictures inside or outside.

Ring lights are also a great tool to have if you don’t have natural light.

If you want to get extra fancy with your selfie sessions, you can always check out maternity dresses.

As always, we recommend hiring a professional if you’re wanting an amazing finished photo like you’re going to see in that maternity dress link above.

A Few Pregnancy Selfie Tips

  • Use natural light. A light in front of you acts as an amazing light box. If the light is behind you, it will create a silhouette appearance.
  • Your hair, makeup, etc does not have to be perfect. Just get those bump updates so you can remember what you looked like as your pregnancy progresses.
  • Have fun with it. Documenting your pregnancy can be a fun way to watch your bump grow and take a look at it in the years to come. There’s no need to worry about a perfect pregnancy selfie.

Finding A Photographer That Matches Your Personality

Finding a photographer that matches your personality is imperative when your goal is to capture the memory of your pregnancy. Just like with your wedding day, pregnancy with each child is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Finding the perfect photographer to capture it is so important.

If you’re looking for the photographer of your dreams, there’s a few places to start…

  1. Google. Google search terms like “Your town maternity photographer” “Your town pregnancy photographer” “Your town photography” and see what comes up.
  2. Ask on your favorite social media platform.
  3. Search Instagram by typing in keywords.

Once you’ve made a list of your finds, find each of their websites, stalk their FB and compare them. Do they write in a style that appeals to you? Are their photographs something you’re looking for? If you see what you like, connect with them and get scheduled. Take your time though. Finding a photographer that you’ll love is important in preserving the memories of your pregnancy.
